Post #3: The Promises of God
May 4-12, 2026
Telling My Family the News
It was not easy to tell my family. In some ways, I knew it would be harder on them than on me. My Mom would rather it be her. My sister would be in disbelief. I dreaded telling the kids. It is in my DNA as a mother to protect them, and I wanted to somehow protect them from the facts. It took me a week to find the right time and words to share with each of them.
And then I remembered that the Truth was more important, more powerful, more relevant than the facts. I just needed to remind them all of the Truth in His word, the promises of God. For God’s promises are yes and amen.
2 Corinthians 1:20-22 “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. 21 Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, 22 set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.”
God’s “yes” is about certainty and truth. There is no “maybe” about it. God does not hesitate or waver. His promises to us are guaranteed.
And it should be our “Amen” that declares our agreement and celebration of the fact that all of His promises are unchanging, secured, and for each of us. He anoints us, seals us for Himself, and empowers us by the Holy Spirit for His work. Glory be to God for this amazing gift!
Here are just some of those promises made to us by God:
· "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 What other promise do we need besides eternal life with Him?
· Isaiah 26:3 is a well-known verse that offers a promise of tranquility: "You keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you."
· Jesus promises rest in Matthew 11:28 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
· In Philippians 4:19 Paul reminds us that the Lord provides ". . . my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus."
· Jeremiah 29:11 promises protection and hope, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
· In Deuteronomy 4:29, God promises that if we search for Him we will find Him. "But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul."
· God’s love will never fail. “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever." 1 Chronicles 16:34
· God promised that all things will work out for good for His children. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
· God promises us comfort in our trials. “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4.
· 2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds us we have new life in Christ. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:[a] The old has gone, the new is here!”
· “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.” In Ephesians 1:3, God promises us every spiritual blessing in Christ including love, grace, redemption, mercy, salvation, sonship, forgiveness of sins, hope in Christ, the message of truth, and the wisdom and understanding of His will. All of these gifts come to us through the blood of Jesus and to the Glory of God.
· God promises to finish the work he started through us in Philippians 1:6. “ . . . being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
· In Philippians 4:6-7 God powerfully promises peace when we pray. "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
· Jesus promised abundant life to those who follow Him in John 10:10. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
· The Good Shepherd also promised to hold us securely: “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all[c]; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.” John 10:27-30
· In Acts 1:8, Jesus promised the power of the Holy Spirit. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
And then there are all the promises of healing. I will save those for another post.
PRAYER
Father God, thank you that we can stand on the promises of your Word. Thank you that we have been given every spiritual blessing including Your mighty love, grace, mercy, sonship and salvation. Thank you for the power of the Holy Spirit which you have given us. We praise you that same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us. Let us stand on that truth and live our lives claiming that power within us now. Lord, we are not waiting to meet you, you are already present with us. We have full access to you here and now. Praise the Lord that your love endures forever. In Christ’s holy name we pray. Amen.
